A major part of Calvinism is the idea of predestination and the elect. Since God is all knowing and all powerful humans lack free will and cannot influence whether they go to heaven or hell. Their are some indications of who will be the elect going to heaven though. They will be the more upstanding and successful members of the community. This ties in quite well with our current political climate. Conservatives see the rich and powerful as paragons of virtue and intelligence chosen by god. That is why they constantly try to undermine the democratic process. Democracy is bad because it can potentially undermine the authority of gods chosen people.
