Can you claify your groupings a bit?
For instance, Malaysia has Islam as a state religion, but it’s legal system is mainly derived from English Common Law. They have a constitution, elections, etc., but they also are not Arabic.
So I think I’m having troubles with your comment sort of making “Islamist” and “Arab” equivalent, when there are a lot of non-Arab Muslims in the world as well.
Turkey, also, is a Muslim democratic republic so thanks for pointing it out.
I worry about the Arab Spring uprising because it could become very bad, worse than it was in Libya, Egypt, Tunisia and what’s going on Syria, I don’t know. But yes, certainly there are examples to follow if they can get there.
