My paternal grandparents were “chain immigrants”, sent over as children to live with their relatives.
So many of ours were. My grandmother’s neighborhood in Pennsylvania may as well been another extension of the home village. All the adults knew each other from the old country. In fact, when I talked to one of my DNA matches, we uncovered it was her great grandparents that had my great grandfather board with them when he arrived. Immigration is essential to the American story and Trump is really the only President I’ve seen that doesn’t get that.
