In our tiny little community - very rural, somewhat pro-Trump - they had a walkout. I’m pretty sure, if it wasn’t sanctioned, it was at least not punished; I say that because there were posters hung prominently all over the school advertising the walkout. I’m reasonably certain that a school that intended to punish such action would not allow its advertisement.
A really cool skool would blur the difference between a protest and a field trip.
Onse day during our assignment in Italy, I was at home on an American holiday but Daughter2 was in class at her Italian middle school. As I walked to the pastry shop I heard noises outside the mayor’s office, so I went around the corner to check. The 8th grade teacher was leading Daughter Deb and the kids on a demonstration for heat repair in the classrooms. We locked eyes and I broke out laughing.
(Of course the Mayor couldn’t bend to such disorder, so he sent the Deputy Mayor out to deal with their shit.)
