OK, I’m gonna catch hell for this, but I’m old enough to remember when it wasn’t at all unusual for parents to pull kids’ teeth when they were loose or sometimes not even very loose but in a bad way of some kind. Some were far from a competent dentist or just couldn’t afford a dentist for every baby tooth, and besides, if you think kids didn’t scream in dentists’ offices in those days, or even in these days, you’re wrong. Christ, over the course of a lifetime I’ve pulled a dozen of my own teeth, some easy, some very tough.

All I’m saying is I don’t know this mom’s reasons, but I’m not ready to call her a monster just yet.

I have to agree. When I was a kid, we used string on a door knob. Slam door, tooth out.

The first thing I thought was the kids teeth were hanging loose and needed help coming out.

I didn’t read the story, though, it may be horrible (which is why I didn’t read the story… One horrible kids story for the day was enough for me).
