re: #493 Aceofwhat?

because it’s not that biologically simple. what’s the difference between a 36-week old baby in the womb vs. out of the womb? biologically speaking, it’s the umbilical cord. is the severance of the umbilical cord the most logical point to declare the child free of the womb, and by extension, from how a woman would choose to use her womb?

At 36 weeks, a fetus may, or may not, survive on its own outside of the womb. This becomes a tricky question. The thing is, abortions at that stage are not done on a whim or without something having gone terribly wrong with the pregnancy. Either the mother’s life or health is in serious jeopardy, the fetus is dead or will not survive after birth, etc.
