Actually, supernova would expel the exploding sun’s gases throughout their near space - Planets closest would be obliterated (adding to interstellar dust), but those further away might be torn from their prior orbits and blown apart in chunks big enough to form new asteroids.

Dude, star’s don’t expel gases, mammals do :) According to science supernova will produce a vast molecular cloud which will eventually collapse on itself producing a new star system, nothing about planet shrapnel.
