Since it seems to need repeating- many of the Founders were Deists.

John Adams was not, he was a devout Christian. But you can’t read his letters and his voluminous writings on the founding of our nation and believe that he saw the Bible as the primary source for our philosophy of government.

John Adams is an excellent book.
