Actually, they had no problem with prayer and so on. John Adams proclaimed a day of prayer in 1798. Abraham Lincoln had a day of prayer. Franklin thought they should pray during the Constitutional Convention.
But I think both Franklin and Jefferson would be out experimenting with different kinds of cloud busters.
