From what I understand, the Knights of Columbus, Royal Order of Hibernarians often sponsored St. Patrick’s Day parades. I don’t know about Boston as I’ve never lived there though.

If it’s not sponsored by the city, then it’s a private parade, and they could exclude who they want. There would be nothing stopping the gays from having their own parade. Imagine the KKK being required to have blacks in their parades.

The first amendment is complex, and it’s ultimately a good thing it’s not required to adhere to our emotional whims.
