Conservative/repressive parenting has little to do with choices. People intimidated by the idea of choices for their children are certainly free to impose conservative repression on their children; no one is stopping them.
I don’t see why conservative parenting would have little to do with choices. I can certainly see that a conservative parent would have other ideas of the choices that were actually available to their children than a liberal parent, and would thus strive to make their children aware of other sets of choices, but I think in general the idea of making your children aware of the choices they got (even though the parental recognition of what choices are available or what ammounts to a good choice or a bad choice might differ according to political pov) is a rather “bipartisan” one.
