He may have no choice. His party is collapsing, with its membership fleeing the country, he’s lost 20% of Ukraine’s territory, the country is on the brink of outright civil war, the Russians didn’t come through with the second tranche of financial aid, and it’s entirely likely that Putin may well throw him under the bus because he’s become too much of a liability. Putin will find a more acceptable toady for Kyiv, and Yanuk can spend the rest of his days in exile, remembering that he was overthrown not once, but twice in the span of a decade.

And Putin can keep Yanuk around in Russia as a chip to be tossed back to the Ukraine as a sop at some point. Presumably they will find the records indicating how much he has gouged and squirreled away in external bank accounts - giving them grounds to have him permanently on charges and with outstanding extradition requests made to Russia to get him back for trial.
