Big difference is that liberals laud countermajoritarianism when it expands and enhances the equal rights of groups and individual who are being oppressed, whereas conservatives laud it when it expands the oppression of groups and individuals seeking equal rights.

For example, Obergefell on one hand, and Citizens United on the other.
