The legal argument for abortion becoming a state issue at this point is incredibly dubious. And can be incredibly far reaching.

Would the Court continue to recognize the general constitutional right to privacy but simply hold that the right to an abortion (a medical procedure) is not covered by the right to privacy? And if this one particular medical procedure isn’t covered, are there other medical procedures that aren’t covered?

If the Court strikes down the constitutional right to privacy, how many other cases (and rights we take for granted) become suspect?

The most common argument being made by pro-lifers is that life begins at conception and thus equal protection and due process should apply to the unborn. If that’s the decision the Court reaches, there’s no way for it to be legal in some places and illegal in others. And that’s before we get into the hundreds of moral questions attached to such a ruling.
