Beck tripped over his own tongue, but he is right.

First, the present context: “So here you have Barack Obama going in and spending the money on embryonic stem cell research,”

Then, the historical context: “and then some, fundamentally changing – remember, those great progressive doctors are the ones who brought us Eugenics. It was the progressive movement -“

So far, so good. Then this, which is a little harder to parse: “- and it was science. Let’s put science truly in her place.”

What he is trying to say is that eugenics was a philosophical movement which claimed the mantle of “science” for itself. Of course “science” has no aim, and has no policy; it is simply a model of how the world already works.

Finally, “If evolution is right, why don’t we just help out evolution? That was the idea.”

Beck is not stating it as clearly as LGFers would like, but this is an accurate assessment of eugenics. If evolution is right, then as the world buffers the unfit from the consequences of their mistakes, humans will adapt to their (artificial) environment: that is, they will weaken and grow more stupid. Eugenics “helps out evolution” by forcing humans to breed in accordance with the eugenicists’ ideals. That is, according to Wilsonian progressive ideals.
