I stand with ReineDeTrout on this. I want gays to have the same benefits I have with my wife. My opposition to marriage being changed to include gay relationships is based on the idea that the gay relationship is fundamentally different than my straight one. Not less in any way. Different in important ways. Ways worth recognizing with a different label, a different method than “marriage”.

Cultural differences deserve more than homogenization. That is ruin of a subtle kind. The differences deserve honest celebration. I say the same is true for our sexual differences. Our geographic differences. Our differences in appearance and race.

Setting aside anger and negativity we can enjoy one anthers different choices as variety of humanities.

fair enough. we definitely don’t agree but you’ve made the most coherent case for the civil union argument i’ve heard. and congrats, you have the rollwave87 ‘not anti-gay’ stamp of approval. sarc
