Thank you for quoting that, because I found his statement to be moving, really. This is a great country. Children of immigrants finding a better life… Beautiful.

But it’s also human nature to admit that our personal experiences do affect our reasoning and judgment. The Founders were certainly aware. The best we can hope in a human in such a position is they try to use the best of their knowledge and wisdom to reach a just and fair decision.

There are certainly areas where I know Sotomayor and I have different underlying assumptions, but I’ve seen other decisions where her reasoning agrees more with mine. I really think she’ll be moderate- another O’Connor.
