The big things holding back solar and wind as practical ways to supplement our energy needs are the energy densities of batteries. New batteries have been developed that surpass the needs of making the technology practical. We need now to work on getting the batteries mass-produced and the panels and wind farms installed. In of themselves, those technologies do not solve everything, but the could easily - as in the next five years if we really wanted to, take care of 15-30% of our energy needs depending on how aggressive we were in deployment.

hardly anybody cares!…it ain’t gonna happen…wind turbins are a juvenile scout project…we’d need massive nuclear developement and politically that’s just impossible right now…the social awareness aspect alone sinks your plan…nobody gives a crap
