True. You can have character witnesses. But of course once that starts happening expect to see it coming from both the defense and the prosecution.

I think that is different from a “character witness”.
This is more about past behavior and with an eye witness to a violent act (throwing the woman) while performing (unofficial) security duties.

It seems to suggest a pattern of behavior.
