We just had provincial elections yesterday. Normally we get a chunk of paper from the enumerator who stops by that we take to the polls as evidence we are who we say we are. We got those papers some weeks ago. When we went to the polls to vote, we found out we also needed government issue picture ID. As usual, I left my wallet in my car, so I didn’t have the ID. They said the wife could vouch for me but we’d have to jump through some hoops. I said fuckit and left.

What the fuck is the necessity for picture ID? I’ve voted in municipal, provincial and federal elections for 38 years without needing picture ID. Who the fuck in Sask is going to vote without being a citizen? This can only harm the indigenous population, members of the groups who’ve been here a lot longer than we have.

No ID is required in New York State. I simply countersign a photocopy of my voter registration at the polling place. Nonetheless, I always bring my passport in case there is a fascist takeover between the time I get on my bike and the time I arrive at the polls.
