It is my belief that a non-trivial portion, perhaps even the majority portion, of Trump’s support is based on religion.
Or more precisely, about the fear of losing religion.
If my Facebook wall is any indication, there is a strong correlation between the Christian-nationalists and Trump support.
To them, Trump is the restoration of the true America.
It’s an absurd belief, but then again, their worldview is based on a series of absurd beliefs.
It is ironic that Trump-as-strongman stands in for God-as-father, but given the strong relationship between patriarchy and theocracy (see also the Russian Orthodox church) we ought not be surprised.
