I was just unlocking the door to my apartment in Prague when my ex-wife (girlfriend at the time) called me and asked where I was. She then said, “You’d better turn on the TV - something really bad looks to be happening in New York City.”

I turned on the TV to ČT1 and they were carrying a live feed from BBC. And just in time to see the South Tower hit by United #175. It took a couple seconds for me to process that, because I immediately recalled a scene from the now-largely-forgotten film The Medusa Touch, where a 747 slams into a skyscraper. Except, of course, this was all too real.

And the world’s never been the same since.
