re: #46 Flavia

I could see where this was going to end up; there’s one that was originally told by Jewish comedians, but has been passed around by everyone else about a parrot that “spoke five languages” & the mother says - like in this story - “It was delicious!”

But it doesn’t end there!

The son remonstrates w/his mother: “How could you eat that bird? It cost thousands of dollars! It spoke 5 languages!”

Unperturbed, the mother retorts, “Well, why didn’t it say something?”

Ba-DUMP-dum!

LOL. it must be one of those universal jokes that exists in almost every culture in one form or another, but whose origins are lost in the mists of time. Same with stuff like Romeo & Juliet, Cinderella, etc.

Speaking of the mists of time, I just had a weird thought: I wonder what cavemen joked about? I have no idea if Neanderthals had language skills, but if they did, what would have made them laugh? And I wonder what kind of practical jokes they played on each other?

Heh, okay, dialing back the overactive imagination and going back into lurk mode…
