What if the US just paid the poppy farmers for their crop, took what was necessary and burned the rest, provided a level of security to keep the Taliban from stealing their money and then got them started growing food crops?

do that for a couple of years and fiscally starve the Taliban.

Supply goes down, demand stays the same, price goes up. Fewer people, getting more rich.
