It costs more lives in the long run.

Look at any campaign in history when men felt that it was better to possibly die fighting even hopeless odds, than be captured, because they knew their enemy is that cruel.

The last thing anyone with actual military experience wants is a no quarter asked and none given situation. Just ask the soldiers. Real soldiers, not Bush talking pieces.

What was the Pacific Theatre like in the Second World War? Why was it like that?

what is your point?…thousands of Japanese were executed outright on Saipan and Okinawa and most Marines had no problem with it…what is your actual military experience?…did you read a book?
