As I person who has been through that for more than a year straight (deployment), I can assure you the celebration is bitter sweet. I still find myself being confronted with news happenings/world events that I do not recall, only to find out they happened when I was gone. Its hard to play catch-up when you miss out on everything.

That’s pretty much how I feel about the entire decade of the ’90s. The whole thing was a blank to me, and remains so.

I didn’t really start paying attention to the news until 9/11.

I went through a “devour the news” phase for several years after that, but I have now retreated to my original anti-MSM stance.
