re: #571 RogueOne

I keep seeing this strawman. Could someone, anyone, point out where in this country there is a truly “private” hospital? There is no such animal.

Secondly I’d like to point out, again, that government intervention is what caused the problem (Jim Crow laws) to begin with. If the state and federal governments had kept out it integration would have happened decades earlier. Government action is not a panacea to all our problems and as a matter of course tend to make things worse rather than better.

You’re not a pragmatist or realist are you Rogue. You would have to be rather naive to think that if there was no government intervention that desegregation would have occurred faster without them.

The fact is that you sometimes have to legislate morality and the needs of the many outweigh the bizarre notion that any private business can discriminate against people because of the color of their skin, race, ethnic identity and religion.

Yes, there is something else that’s missing from this conversation and it’s religion. To defend this notion of freedom to discriminate means that you would be fine with a store putting up a sign that read “No Juden.” In other words the rights of some damn bigot is more important than any ethnic community that may fall victim to the archaic practice we left behind many decades ago.

It’s not a strawman, it’s the logical conclusion to this backwards way of thinking. The CRA stands and this unicorn like fantasy of reversing Title II will not only remain a fantasy but be expanded to include sexual identity and sexual preference — as it should.
