I am sure you can speak to this better than I can since you live there but I think far too many Americans don’t understand China. I won’t claim that the regime is democratic or even shares most of our interests but I am tired of them being used as a boogeyman for things that corporate America has done. We bitch about China “taking” our jobs. Uh take it up with the companies that decided to move manufacturing there because they didn’t want to pay American employees a competitive wage. China’s going to take that opportunity and run with it. Any nation in China’s situation would do that.

The Chinese took advantage of the Invisible Hand, and made sure they could make stuff for far lower prices than American manufacturers. Naturally, American businesses outsourced those jobs to China. Hell, even Trump’s clothing line is produced in China for that very reason.

And yeah, most Americans — especially Trump’s base — don’t know China from a hole in the wall. Xi is not an absolute dictator like NoKo’s Kim, because the Chinese government is essentially an oligarchy.
