There is no one to hold them to account. Their audience doesn’t care, and no one else can bring them to heel except their advertisers, who also don’t care. The FCC doesn’t take action for dishonest editing, only for nudity and bad words.

Because who cares if they people are being blatantly lied to, just so long as they are spared from boobies and dirty words.
