It happens to be planned in our case, but you are underestimating the power one married person has over another. The pulling of plugs is just a good clear case. See Schiavo situation.

In the Schiavo case, the person didn’t have the capacity to make a decision on her behalf, which was why that right passed to her next of kin. (I would *hope* no-one seriously suggests a pregnant woman falls into this category.) The Schiavo case is also a perfect example of why legal documents like a living will or enduring power of attorney are a good idea for everyone. It lets each of us chose how the decisions that affect us will be made even when we’re not capable of making those decisions.
