TBH, it is not necessarily true that these new photos being released show an angry mob intent in killing the soldiers.

The mob had already beaten them up, and this is the aftermath, potentially with legitimate “activists” trying to defuse the situation, taking them hostage.

By the time these pictures were taken the decision to take hostages instead of killing them was already made.

We also know that there were groups with conflicting intentions aboard the vessel.
