My biggest concern with a shift away from employer-based insurance would be that the employers would pocket the difference, and the employee doesn’t see any of the benefit (increasing the costs still more to the employee) since insurance is a benefit to the employee that is part of compensation. If you stop paying that, and don’t replace it with other compensation, you’re giving the employee a pay cut.
Of course they are going to do that, and most people are too ignorant to notice.
