Reminds me of the antisocial acquaintance you described, saying that if you tortured someone to death in front of him, his only emotion would be annoyance at all the noise. I think you also said his problem was that he couldn’t feel empathy at all, while the desire to see others suffer actually is a form of empathy, albeit a maladaptive one.

That being the case, would you say sadistic killers aren’t actually sociopaths? Because according to how you described your friend, he could kill someone “inconvenient” to him without feeling guilt, but wouldn’t go out of his way to inflict pain.
