Budgets

You are what you spend. A family decides what it spends, cloths, shoes, utilities and, what luxuries, if any you can afford. Businesses budget, even the mafia has a budget. Whether a captain of industry, a Reverend in a Church, we look at what we have and where we must and where we can spend.

So, in celebration of the thirtieth anniversary of the Islamic Republic of Iran, let’s look at their budget and see who they are. First we know they are secretive. Burying a buildings or tunneling to place facilities far underground means you are the sort of person who does not want even Google Earth knowing what you are up to. Even their published budget is not what they are actually spending. In open societies like ours, even the money for intelligence, spying and “black” defense items are still shown as line items on our budgets.

Hezbollah, an organization that functions as a subsidiary corporation of the Iranian Revolutionary guards, bought 40,000 missiles and rockets and have placed them in bunkers to be aimed at Israel. A crappy little rocket can be built for a few hundred, but the new long range stuff costs a lot more, then add training, shipping, security, maintenance and emplacement costs too. The point is Iran has easily spent billions arming Hezbollah and Hamas.

This must be important because Iran is spending this fortune every year while importing gasoline and ignoring investment in their ancient oil and gas production plants. Their currency is all but worthless. Any fair look at Tehran shows a city deeply neglected, and that is the capital! With inflation nearing 30% last year and unemployment close to 25%, Hezbollah and Hamas are the priorities- not the long term well being of their people and nation.

Why else fly their Foreign Minister to arch terrorist Imad Mugniyeh’s funeral and fly babykiller Samir Kuntar to Tehran for a photo OP? They could have invested in their own universities and secondary education, instead they spend a fortune on religious police and Basiji fast reaction terror teams not building a future for their children. This is their budget.

So today’s news of Iran’s launching a satellite into orbit is really great news for their leaders. But it’s real bad news for the western world: Iran now has missiles that can reach all of Europe and, depending on the missile are closing in on missiles that can reach the US.

Why would a nation budget themselves this way? There are no good reasons. But no one can claim this is accidental. Budgets are the most intentional of things. When they don’t have the money for arts, education, culture or developing industries that can provide livelihoods for their people but put every dollar they can towards an undeclared war against America and a fully declared war against Israel, it naivete of the new administration thinking these very deliberate folks can be charmed or bought from their national mission is dangerously misinformed.

In modern Iran, religious holocaust denying fanatics run everything, they set the budget. Our leadership seems not to understand this. No one in power in the US sees the horrible place we will be if Iran really is what they budget: we dither with pointless diplomacy. Obama doesn’t realize that he does not understand Iran. What can America offer Iran that might change their behavior? They have money. They have power. They don’t care about recognition. They want more money and more power and think they can get it from us or with nuclear weapons.

What Iran wants is our destruction, they pay for parades every year calling for it, it’s in the budget. They want us to make them masters over the entire middle east. Those are their conditions for “peace.” This is before they get the bomb and control the world’s oil!

This is a uniquely dangerous radical regime and we should concerned about what they will cost us in the future in war and lives. Their budget is not changing and we are getting ready to pay for our folly for generations to come.
