Norton anti-virus stinks. I’ve been having progressively worse computer troubles for months. Root Directory damage, windows crashes, etc. Norton scans turned up nothing. Last night I ran an Ad Aware scan (free version). It found malware within 5 minutes. After a quick reboot all problems solved.
