Today’s accomplishment: I managed to remove the ice bin from the fridge. Unfortunately found a lot of ice underneath it, which is not where it is supposed to be, and probably also the source for the electric-burned-out-smell.

I am taking a break from hair dryer into the fridge to melt the ice.

I don’t know what it says that I had to dig out the hair dryer my MiL keeps here in order to do this.

Is this a unit with the ice dispenser on the door? Sometimes the auger that pushes the ice out the door dispenser gets unseated and stuck. Smell could be the result of the motor burning trying to turn the stuck auger.

I’d suggest checking the door side of the auger to verify that it’s properly seated.
