When the story was reported on our local TV news, after the part about it being illegal and incredibly stupid, one of the news readers (couldn’t possibly have qualified as an actual reporter, I hope) said something along the lines of “Awww, but at least their hearts were in the right place.” Person who had presented the story basically responded, “Umm, no.”

People don’t seem to remember the “wild” part of “wild animal”.
