The best way to lie is to start with a truth. We all know Bannon drinks (and I would keep supplying him alcohol until his liver crawled out through his mouth if I could) and so it’s not exactly hard to make up a story based on that.

As others have said, ratfucking doesn’t work too well when you make yourself look real bad in the process. Also, Bannon and his breitbrats wold never publicize something like this, even anonymously. So if it is fictional, it is somebody who is not sympathetic to the admin, has a very good grasp of some of the internal dynamics and a better than average sense of creating character.

That is why I still lean towards real.
