The “But what if we lose the majority!” argument for retaining the filibuster is a self-fulfilling prophecy by this point. The party gets the majority, the party does all of jack and shit with that majority for fear that it is fleeting, and then loses the majority because the voters can’t see a reason to keep the majority in power. What then follows is a whole lot of recriminations and soul-searching about how the party was “too radical/progressive” when it should have been “bipartisan,” all while the opposition party is plowing forward because they don’t suffer from a constant existential crisis.
