I learned to type with the double space after a period. That’s now been thoroughly drummed out after years in the editorial/publishing business. Single spacing is the rule, not the exception in publishing.

When I worked as a word processor for law firms, double spacing after a period was the norm in legal documents. Really, really boring legal documents.
