Well, if you read what Charles put up in the article we will find he was asked the following:

In the last month, same-sex marriage has become legal in Iowa and Vermont. What do you think about same-sex marriage at a state level?

Why does conservatism appeal to you as a Christian?

Does the Republican Party reach out to evangelicals enough?

Emphasis mine. Apparently we can see that Joe W. is considered a worthy source informations on the following issues considering the questions:

1. State law regarding same-sex marriage.
2. Conservatism and Christianity.
3. Republican Party issues with evangelicals.

Apparently he represents all three groups: state, conservatism, and the Republican Party. If not why would they have asked him those questions.
