Academically MJ is classified as a hallucinogen. It has been since the 1970s…my mom was in nursing school then and I was always a nerd.

It would take a heck of a dose of THC to cause major hallucinations (based solely upon personal experience and observation many years ago). I never found the stuff all that great, partly because I found this to be true:
