Democracy is necessary but not sufficient, as we have learned all too well from Hamas.
I wouldn’t trust the Iraqis as far as I can throw them - which is not too far.

Hamas cited as an example of democracy being necessary, but not sufficient, falls into the trap of the left’s arguments that assumes the result of Hamas in Gaza was an aspect of “democracy”. Democracy is more than just a vote for who represents you. A liberal democracy includes civil rights, accountability and transparency of government, oversight, limits on the power of government, and civil rights such as freedom of speech and property rights. Hamas engendered nothing that democracy represents.
