Marxism was convenient in the solidly Democratic neighborhoods he came from, when he was a state legislator. It was also useful when he ran for the Senate.

He’s finding out that he can’t vote “present” any more. He’s adopting as many of the Bush methods and practices that he has because he doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing. As for GM, compare it to Taggart Transcontinental after the Railroad Unification Act passed. He’s taking the wrong lessons from Atlas Shrugged.
