no way…after modifications these planes are multi million dollar racers…they don’t just break on schedule…something serious went wrong…the guy came out of a turn and went to flatten out then jammed himself straight up, and for some reasoned rolled and splashed…a very curious episode

He initially may have been trying to get some altitude to try to deal with whatever problem he was having - going back to what I said earlier - I worked with pilots of small planes (fire spotter planes), and they all said they wanted as much altitude as possible if there was a problem, for time to deal with it or figure out what to do.
