Earp was also an officer of the law. As I said, I think a lot of them ignore how wide the overlap between civilian and military/police weaponry has grown not just since the writing of the 2nd amendment but over the last century even. Does anyone in their right mind think that a civilian should be able to purchase a bazooka for use or a howitzer.

Two words: Red Dawn.

Seriously, that’s what they imagine. That, and the armed forces and Law Enforcement all being composed of Oathkeepers who will rise up against whatever tyranny they imagine will be imposed.

As I said, there’s a lot of common sense lacking here and it comes from the NRA and like minded groups spreading paranoia to gun-owners whenever something like what happened on Monday happens. The NRA has been pulling this “They’re out to get your guns” for as long as I can remember and yet gun ownership keeps on increasing more and more.

Apparently, gun ownership in the sense of percentage of the population owning guns has fallen, while the number of guns per gun owner has risen sharply.

I think a lot of folks used to be like my Dad. He had 2 rifles, a .22 and a .30-06, and 2 shotguns - single shot and a side-by-side. Then folks decided they needed handguns. Then they decided they needed handguns with big-ass clips. Then they needed AR-15s and AK47s and SKSs and shit like that. Then then needed MORE of each of the above, because crime’s so rampant, despite the fact that all violent crime has dropped precipitously since the early 1990s.
