It was fashionable in Victorian times to make hair jewelry from the hair of a departed. I’ve seen mourning brooches with hair woven in fine checkerboards, and watchchains made of braided hair, among other things.

I’ve heard of such things, myself. They strike me as very odd, almost like a secularized version of the cult of the relics of the saints.

Much as I miss my departed family, I would not wish to have some remnant of their physical body with me after their death.
