No wonder Cain is holding a presser today:

Poll finds plurality of Americans believe Cain allegations true

A new poll provided troubling news for the Herman Cain campaign, after 39 percent of Americans told the Pew Research Center that they believed the allegations of sexual assault during his time as president of the National Restaurant Association were true, versus just 24 percent who did not.

The poll was conducted over the past weekend, before additional allegations from former restaurant association employee Sharon Bialek surfaced Monday.

The poll also found that 43 percent of those who had heard about the allegations thought that coverage of the situation had been fair, versus 24 percent who said that it had been too tough and 14 percent who believed it had been too easy. Cain has charged that the media has sensationalized the story to hurt his campaign.

However, the right is not convinced:

If there is any consolation for Cain, it is that a plurality of Republican voters did not believe the claims to be true. Of Republicans, 39 percent said they thought the claims were false, while 29 percent said they were true. A third of Republican voters said they weren’t sure.

Republican women were especially unconvinced - 46 percent believed the allegations to be untrue, versus only a third of Republican men.
