deserves might be the offensive word here.

While technically he does deserve it, it is society that truly deserves it in this case. We can’t let ourselves fall to our base instincts —which might also be a just outcome, but we won’t know that until the trial is complete.

Like I said earlier, if it were my kid, they’d have to lock me up.
