“Native informing” basically means airing your group’s dirty laundry—in this case the group being a religion, but it could also be race, etc.—to people who are known to be hostile to it, hence the Mel Gibson comment by Obeidallah. It’s not even just the airing of dirty laundry, it’s the making financial profit off of doing so.

I would add that the dislike of native informing is almost surely why many black people resented Bill Cosby’s Pound Cake speech because even though it was made to the NAACP, it was a public speech quickly seized on and used by many people who are hostile to blacks—i.e. it gives them an out, an excuse to say, “See? The black guy said it too, so I can’t be a racist.” That’s how some atheists & Islamophobes use people like Nawaz & Irshad Manji and it’s what causes other Muslims to dislike/distrust them.
